A Message from Irish Network DC Chair
To our members, supporters, and friends of INDC,
It is a real honour to serve as Chair of Irish Network DC in 2026. Having been a member of IN-DC for the past ten years, I have had the privilege of seeing the Network grow, evolve and become such an important part of the Irish community here in Washington, DC. I have made great friends through IN-DC, enjoyed more than a few good nights along the way, and experienced first-hand the warmth and sense of community that makes this organisation so special.
My personal experience has also shaped what I think makes IN-DC so important. I know from my own time here how valuable it is to have a community around you - people who understand the particular experience of being Irish abroad, whether you have been here for ten years or have only just arrived. For someone coming from Ireland and finding their feet in Washington, IN-DC can be a first point of connection: a friendly face, a new friendship, a professional introduction, or simply a place where you feel you belong. That sense of community is at the heart of what we do. And while we are proudly Irish, IN-DC is for everyone who wants to be part of our community and share in the connections between Ireland and the DMV, whether Irish, Irish-American or simply a friend of Ireland.
My goal this year is to build on everything that has made IN-DC successful over the past sixteen years and continue delivering the great programming our members have come to expect - from cultural and professional events to opportunities to connect, celebrate and, inevitably, enjoy a bit of craic! I am very lucky to be supported by an outstanding Board whose members give their time, energy and expertise voluntarily and work tirelessly behind the scenes. I am also deeply grateful for the continued financial support and partnership of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Ireland in Washington. Their commitment to INDC and to the wider Irish community here makes a real difference.
As we look ahead, I also want to use this year to take a step back and make sure the organisation itself is in the best possible shape for the next sixteen years. We will review and update our governance policies and practices, ensuring that INDC remains well run and is as strong, effective and sustainable as it can be for the years ahead.
We have a great community and a strong foundation to build on, and I look forward to working with the Board, our members and our partners to do just that. Most of all, I hope to see many of you at an IN-DC event this year: old friends, new members and everyone in between. I hope you will come along, get involved and, above all, feel at home.
Is mise le meas,
Aideen Gilmore
Chair, IN-DC Board of Directors
